Toulon - Côte d'Azur

First impression:

We spent ten days in Côte d'Azur - what do we think? Southern France is a very good place to get a tan, but if you want to visit old castles ruins, climb a bit, see amazing landscapes, wander narrow, colorful street and feel the smell of trees you must go there! We decided to describe Côte d'Azur in two parts - so if you liked our first impression, wait for the next one:)
In this part we focused on Toulon.

Where to stay?

We stayed in the Formula1 Hotel. It's very popular cheap hotels chain in France. They are almost in every city and the prices for night can be only compared with the rates of campings (the average price is around 30 euro per night per room). For us as the students it was a perfect choice!

Our hotel was located in La-Seyne-Sur-Mer, which is the medium-sized town near Toulon. The location was very convenient as the starting place for our trips.

Old town:

Even though from the historical point of view Toulon was very important city, but in military aspect, we still can find there some old facilities and monuments worth to see.

Porte d'Italie - old town gate

In the heart of city is place which is called 'de la Liberte' there is located famous fountain - 'La fontaine de la Federation'.

Corderie - originally factory of rope marine, now the Marine Museum

How to visit?

The public communication solutions in the city are very well developed. Everyone can easily travel in the city by car, the highway is in the tunnel under the old town, which reduces the traffic. There is also possible to find free parking places quite close to the city center. But the most interesting mean of transport is "Bateau Bus". This boats sail on four different lines between Toulon  and surrounding ports. So you don't even need to go there by car. It is also the cheapest possible boat trip on the Mediterranean Sea - the one way ticket cost 2 euro. Ship sails approximately every 45 minutes during the day. Passengers leave the bout just in the center of Toulon and with the short walk they can reach any interesting place.

Mont Faron

One of the biggest attractions in this area is the tall hill neat the city of Toulon. You can access it on two ways: by car or by bus and then by gondola. On the top of the hill near the upper station of the gondola there are famous ZOO and one fort open for visitors. Further there is another one but still used for military purposes. From the top of the hill you can see stunning views on the Toulon bay.

Beautiful neighborhood

Near Toulon there are many cute villages and magnificent landscapes. Everyone will find there something interesting for himself: (sand or rock) beach, cliff, forest and hills of course with companion of the immaculately blue sea.

Achtung! Warning! Pozor! Uwaga!

If you need to eat...:)You must know that in France is a 'siesta time' in restaurant, mostly between 2:45 and 6:45 p.m. and then nobody will serve you a dinner or at least any snack. - we recommend to adjust - On the coast you should taste seafood and regional specialties, for example head of veal (tete de veau), fish soup (soup de poisson) or shark steak as well as Bouillabaisse.

Another one to my collection
